Dad Visit 8-17-07pm and Inola Map

Posted in Floyd & Marilyn at 9:01 am by Floyd Rosson Jr.

After a delayed and long flight (we aborted our Tulsa landing and circled Tulsa for 30 minutes due 70 mile winds on the runway) I was able to visit with dad last night for a couple of hours. As Chris mentioned I was able to visit with her for a few minutes before seeing dad. Chris provided a good summary of his condition so I really don’t have anything to add. I will be going up to see him this morning and then headed to Inola to visit with Marilyn. I will post a summary of my visits with each of them as soon as I have a chance. Visitors are welcome and I know would help his spirits. He mentioned to me last night no one had been up to see him. I am sure with now over 107 days in the hospital strangers would be welcome…anything to help fill is lonnggggg days.

I have added a .pdf reflecting a map and driving directions to Inola. I was happy to find out it is only 27 miles from St. Francis so it is not as far as I remembered. Hope the map and directions helps those of you that may be visiting Marilyn and dad and he returns to Inola when he returns there to join her.

Floyd Visit 10-17-07

Posted in Floyd & Marilyn at 8:23 pm by Chris Roberts

This evening Floyd seemed agitated, he kept pulling at the his sheet and searching searching for a pen.  I found a pen on the table but he didn’t want that one, finally he took it.  He told the nurse that he was hurting on his side.  They gave him morphine for the pain.  I am sure that most of the agitation is due to the pain medicine he is getting.  Nurse said that part of the pain could be from the gall stones moving around.

Nurse also mentioned that Floyd has pneumonia and that they want to get that cleared up before they operate on removing the gall bladder. Theu are still removing a lot of sludge from the gall bladder.

On my way out I ran into Floyd Jr. Walked back to Floyd’s room with Jr., he was sleeping, nurse started to talk to Jr. and Floyd perked right up as soon as he heard Jr. voice.  He has been eagerly waiting for Jr. to get there.

You have to wear a gown and gloves when you visit Floyd.

Floyd Visit 10-16-07

Posted in Floyd & Marilyn at 12:11 am by Chris Roberts

Visited Floyd this evening, he seemed very confused and was really trying to tell me something using his ABC chart.  His nurse came in and I mentioned to her that he was having a difficult time with the chart.  Nurse said that they had changed his pain medicine and that it will affect his thinking process.   I asked the nurse if she knew when he would be having surgery, she said that it would not be for at least a week or so as they were working on getting the sludge out of the gall bladder.

I finally got Floyd convinced that it was ok that he could not master the ABC chart tonight and that we could talk tomorrow evening.  He kept pulling at his ear and rubbing his forehead, asked him if his ear was hurting and he said no. He finally rested his head on the pillow and went to sleep.

Floyd Update - Tuesday - 10-16-07 at 9:15am CST

Posted in Floyd & Marilyn at 9:25 am by Floyd Rosson Jr.

I spoke with dad’s doctor this morning (Dr. Smith). They did insert the catheter yesterday and his gallbladder is draining well now. They expect the gallbladder will have to be removed in a few days but want to let the antibiotics work their way through and relieve as much of the problem as possible before the removal. The doctor expects they will perform the surgery either this Friday or the first of next week. I will be in town tomorrow afternoon so I will be able to be there for the surgery. The doctor said his vitals signs are good and that he is doing much better than when he arrived last Sunday. He didn’t expect any difficulties from the surgery and overall dad’s prognosis is very favorable.

Floyd Visit 10-15-07

Posted in Floyd & Marilyn at 10:44 pm by Chris Roberts

Was surprised today when I checked the blog that Floyd was back in St. Francis.  Went up to visit him this evening.  His color was good and he was alert.  In fact he seemed more alert than I had seen him at the nursing home on Saturday.  That could have been why he kept falling to sleep Saturday due to him not feeling well, although he did not mention that he wasn’t feeling good.   We talked for a little while.  He had to watch his oxygen levels, so we could not talk for very long.  Had to do it in bits.  He said that pain yesterday was really bad and he thought that he was going to die before he reached the hospital.  He said that as soon as they started to work on him in the ER he felt much better.  He will know tomorrow if and when they will do surgery.

He didn’t have an ABC chart to talk with and I got one from the nurse, thought that this would be better than him trying to talk.  I got nervous when he took the mask off and was talking and seeing the oxygen level dropping, hard to concentrate on what he was saying.  He was glad to get the ABC chart.

He was asking for a calander and I showd him where they have the day, date and year written on the board for him, he said that he had not noticed it there. He was satisfied with that.

Floyd - Update 9:00am CST

Posted in Floyd & Marilyn at 9:18 am by Floyd Rosson Jr.

I just heard from dad’s nurse, Marsha. The results are in from the tests and they have discovered dad’s gallbladder is building up sludge rather than liquefying what passes through it. They are going to go in through an x-ray surgery procedure and install a catheter to drain the sludge. She wasn’t sure when the procedure would be completed but the surgeon is supposed to call me today. I will keep you posted.

Posted in Floyd & Marilyn at 9:44 pm by Floyd Rosson Jr.

We don’t have any results back from the cat scan. The doctor will hopefully call me in the morning to go over the results. I will post an update as soon as I hear anything. According to his evening nurse, Jamie, dad is stable and resting this evenbing. His vitals all look pretty good. Visitors are welcome so please go seem him if you have the chance. I will be there Wednesday late afternoon to check on dad in person and plan to go to Inola on Thursday to see Marilyn.

Floyd - Update - 5:00pm CST

Posted in Floyd & Marilyn at 5:02 pm by Floyd Rosson Jr.

I just spoke with Dad’s nurse, Gina. Dad just got back from his cat scan about 45 minutes ago. They do not have any results back yet. I hope to know something further to report by 8:00pm CST. I will post any updates as soon as I get them.

Gina said Dad is trying to rest but they won’t let him. Every-time he just about or does get to sleep they are awakening him for something. He is frustrated with the process but all in all is doing pretty well she said.

Floyd is back at St. Francis - Medical ICU Room 4437

Posted in Floyd & Marilyn at 11:29 am by Floyd Rosson Jr.

His symptoms are elevated temperature, high blood count and abdominal pain. They believe it is in internal infection of possibly the gallbladder. They are planning on completing a cat scan in the next few hours and will know a lot more once they get the results back.

For those that have been to St. Francis to see them before you use the Blue elevators to the 4th floor. He is in room 4437. The number to the nurse’s station is 918-494-4430. His nurse today is Gina. Visitors are welcome.

Inola Facility

Posted in Floyd & Marilyn at 9:38 pm by Floyd Rosson Jr.

A comment was posted to this blog pertaining to the distance to the Inola facility being too far and that Dad and Mom were placed in Inola because it is a nicer facility, newer and prettier than the Bixby facility. This comment also made mention that they felt companionship and friendship was more important than “cosmetics”. This post upset me and I can only assume other family and friends that have been deeply involved in the tough decisions that we have had to make regarding Dad and Mom’s care.Let me assure everyone that placing Dad and Marilyn in Inola was one of the toughest decisions we have had to make. The fact Bixby is much closer and more convenient for visitations weighed heavily in this tough decision. Most of you are probably aware we placed Marilyn in the Bixby facility for a week or so before she was moved back to St. Francis. Our hopes were the Bixby facility would work out and they both could be there for everyone’s convenience but more importantly the additional “companionship and friendship” Bixby would provide them.Without going into the details there were many factors that led to their move to Inola. We certainly took into consideration the fact due to the distance there will be less visitations. We can only hope people will make the sacrifice as often as possible and visit them in Inola. I would also like to ask that this site be used for positive comments and not personal opinions. This blog was started to support all of those that have sacrificed so much for Dad and Marilyn.
