Ok folks we are finished up at the Mayo for now. Good news is that Tanya’s kidneys are at 17% vs. the 12-15 as last thought. After the most thorough checking you can ever imagine we have been told that Tanya has a very rare kidney disease. In fact so rare the the Geneticist from the Mayo has volunteered to do all the research to determine what the disease is for free. Yes that is correct the DNA and genetic testing will done at no cost thanks to the Mayo Clinic.
The main nephrologist at the Mayo has recommended after a complete and very thorough examination that Tanya take a couple of weeks to decide what step she wants to take either dialysis or transplant. Unfortunately neither are a optimum solution the average patient on dialysis only lives 5 years and the kidney transplant patient is on transplant meds for the rest of their life of which are known to have tremendous side effects and can cost as much as 5-6000 per month. The kidney transplant nurse informed us that as young as Tanya is that she could very well need another transplant in time.
It looks like she is leaning towards transplant at this time and we would expect this to be sometime this year.
Thanks again for your continued prayers and support!

Marilyn was able to verbalize some this evening, was good to hear her talk again. Read her mail to her that had come in. Don Ross had been to visit yesterday, but Marilyn was asleep the whole time he was there. He left a note stating that.
Marilyn was very bloated, I mentioned that to her and she had me bring the nurse in to check. Nurse said that they would get her some medicine to help that. Before I left she was complaining of her right shoulder hurting her really bad, I got the nurse and she gave her some pain medicine.
Marilyn asked me to change her calendar before I left to tomorrow, and asked me to show her that I had changed it. She was in a good mood this evening and we had a good visit.

OK Folks we made it to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN yesterday (WOW I must say it is very impressive every bit of what you would picture the Mayo to be and much more).
We spent all day doing tests and exams and unfortunately it appears at this time according to two different Kidney Specialists that due to the level of scare tissue/damage that Tanya will have to go on either dialysis or have a transplant. According to the Geneticist of which is the last Kidney Specialist that we saw she is highly recommending moving forward with a Kidney Transplant ASAP. We have a battery of further tests to run over the next few days to determine when and if she is a truly a viable transplant candidate.
We will keep you updated on our progress and thanks for your continued prayers and support!

Marilyn was awake and alert when I went in, she mouthed where have you been. Felt bad as I had not seen her since last Monday in St. Francis. I explained about all the appointments and things that I had planned last week, told her I was back on track and would be up to see her twice a week as I have been.
Marilyn had a lot of cards and mail, read her mail and hung her card up for her. She had some lovely flowers from Dean and Katie Reece (sp), they also visited her today. Doyle and Virginia visited on the 20th. If you go and visit Marilyn would you please see if she has any mail and read it to her.
Her nurse Terri came in took her blood pressure, 116/80. Marilyn said that she was feeling OK. Wanted to know what day and date it was, her calendar had not been changed, showed her today was Monday 23rd. She asked if I brought her chap stick, which I did and wanted some on.
If anyone visits and would like to take something to her she could always use chap stick and body and face cream. Just an idea.
Marilyn could not verbalize this evening, but we did pretty good with the lip reading. Told her I would be up either Wednesday or Thursday.

I went out to Inola today to check in on Marilyn and to say hello before leaving for the Mayo in Manchester, MN. She was doing well considering and Annette was her nurse on duty today. She was in good spirits and was alert she kept talking about a square hole in the floor and I told her there were no visual holes in the floor to me. She seemed like she was still unsure I asked if she was glad to be home and she said yes. I asked her if she enjoyed her surprise visit with uncle Joe and she said yes that she was glad he stopped by to see her. We visited for a while and I told her that I would be back when I returned and hopefully with some better news.

I called and talked with Marilyn’s Nurse Katie and she informed me that all doctors had given the green light for her to go back to Inola. Katie said the social worker would be conducting that transfer and it should happen either today or tomorrow. Katie said that all is going well considering and that she seems to be in good spirits! I asked for them to call me once the transfer happens and I will immediately update the Blog.

Visited with Marilyn this evening, she was in good spirits, she still is not able to verbalize. As soon as I got there she asked me what day it was, told her Monday and she said she thought it was Tuesday. The day on her board still said Sunday. She has been concerned about what day it is a lot lately, I don’t know if it has to do with the wreck. It is almost a year since that tragic day.
Asked Marilyn if she enjoyed her visit with Joe (Al’s uncle from CA), she said she hasn’t seen him. Told her he was here over the weekend, she said that she must have been asleep. I asked her if she remembered me being there yesterday and she said no.

Marilyn was sleeping when I went in to visit. Nurse said they had just given her a sponge bath and a breathing treatment before I got there. She woke up for just a little while and I gave her the message from Al and from her sister Chris.
Marilyn sister Chris stayed with her until Saturday, which was good. Could not get Marilyn to wake up any more. The Inola ventilator is still there and she is using that vent. Marlyn’s color was good, but she still seemed bloated in the stomach area.
