Floyd & Marilyn Update

Posted in Uncategorized at 5:09 pm by Ron Rosson

Floyds Nurse today was again Karla.  Karla related that he had a very good day.  Received pain medication twice for general soreness.  All his vital signs are good.  He is alert but somewhat restless.  No weaning from the vent was attempted today.  Lungs are still a concern and he is on antibiotics.  Still getting a.m. chest x-rays and lab work.

Marilyns Nurse was again Karen.  Karen said Marilyn had quite a day.  They changed her cast (leg looked really good).  She has had two doses of pain medication and one for nausia.  Her vital signs are all good.  Her blood sugar level has been normal and they have reduced her glucose test to twice daily.  This alleviates having so many “pricks” to the fingers.  She sat up in the chair for a while and they massaged her legs and arms.  She is showing a very slight ability to move both her right and left little finger.  They tried weaning of the vent (exhale only) and she made it for 15 minutes.  Also, during this 15 minutes they manipulated the trach so that she could SPEAK.  She did so:  Said she wanted to go home!  Asked about Floyd and said she wanted her NAILS DONE!   The Staff tried several local numbers they had for Marilyn to talk to, but could not reach anyone.   She also, asked them not to put the vent back in.  They explained that they had to, she said she understood and that she didn’t want to die, but she didn’t like it and didn’t want to have to have it in.

We ask that someone volunteer to arrange for Marilyn to get her nails done.  Perhaps one of her friends know who she used.  We will of course cover the expense.  Please talk to Chris Roberts to schedule it.  Maybe it could be set up for every other week (or whatever is appropriate).

Both nurses complimented their friends and said they did wonders for Marilyn and Floyds morale.  Also, said they were staying just about the right amount of time and being very positive.

Thanks again, we appreciate you so much.

I have made arrangements with Jackie Davis the lady that does my nails to take care of Marilyn’s hands and feet next Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.. I will be going by her shop and picking her up and taking her out there so I can introduce them to each other the first time. Jackie is very good and kind and she will take good care of Marilyn. She has insisted she wants to do this for Marilyn and as a freind to me for no charge this time. Ms. Jackie does a lot of people in nursing homes and shut-ins with health issues so I think she is a good person to be able to deal with Marilyn’s special needs. Dean and Kathi Reiss have expressed their wishes to take care of the expense to have Marilyn’s nails done on a regular basis. Kathi will be bringing the payment to me to give to Jackie. I’ll work on regular appointments every other week.
