Marilyn and Floyd visit 9-26-07

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:26 am by Chris Roberts

Yesterday Marilyn was refusing treatment.  She kept telling everyone to go away.  I met with Dr. Ali, her sisters Dee, Chris and nurse Mike.  Marilyn indicated that she does not want any more treatment.  Dr. Ali said that the next step would be to bring in a physiologist to do a further evaluation and then if she was still refusing treatment it would go before the Ethics Committee.  Discussed the fact that Marilyn has a living will but at this point that doesn’t matter!!!!

When I went up in the evening she did not tell me to go away.  Marilyn did ask for her trek to be removed.  Dee and Chris were still with her when I left.

Floyd was doing good he had his voice box in and it was good to tak to him.  He had the voice box in all day today.  He had lots of questions about Marilyn and I answered as honest as  I could .  Floyd thanked me for talking to him and he said that Marilyn’s wishes need to be listened to and granted.  Floyd went to the gym yesterday to have some exercises on his legs.  His attitude and spirits were good today.

Discussed the fact that Marilyn has a living will but at this point that doesn’t matter!!!! Chris, are you saying that the hospital wont/can’t follow the living will? If so, what is the point of a living will? Is it because she is at a Catholic hospital and the hospital is pro life? If that is the problem she can be moved to another hospital or taken home. You know my desire is for Marilyn to be made 100% whole but if that cannot happen in this life, it DOES happen in Heaven.
God Bless the Rossons and us all.

I wanted to send a message to Marilyn and Floyd and to their family and friends. I live in Carlisle IA and winter in Texas. I stay in Bit O’Heaven and have been a friend of Marilyn’s for the past 4 years. I played bingo with her on Thursdays and did a lot of running around with her. I just found out about the accident a few weeks ago and haven’t been able to open this site. I have 2 good friends (also bingo buddies) who have kept me up to date. I finally got this last site and can finally get through to check on her.
Would you please let her know I am thinking about her and she is always in my prayers. She is one of my very favorite people and my heart was broken when I heard about her injuries. We have kept in touch all these years and she always send me e-mails to keep me entertained. We always joked and laughed so much when we got together. I wish the very best for her and that I lived closer to tell her myself.
My heart goes out to all of you and please let her know that I love her and she is in my thoughts.
All my love, Ronda and Dean Fiser

Carol and I drove from Missouri to Tulsa, we did not hear about the tragic accident until last Saturday morning. We arrived Monday evening and visited them, then spend most of Tuesday at the hospital. Floyd seemed in good spirits, and was able to talk to us for about 45 minutes or, and he was setting up in his chair for several hours. We visited Marilyn several times. She did recognize us, and she did smile a couple times, but it almost seemed like she did not want us to see her. She would just close her eyes.
She was always so full of life, a real cut up, always kept you on your toes.
Our thoughts and prayers are with them both, especially Marilyn, and hope her wishes are respected.
    We Love them both dearly

This is Carol Tucker, Larry’s wife and friend of Floyd and Marilyn. We know them from the Rio Grande Valley of Texas and have visited them in Tulsa. We had a great bus trip together to Mexico last Feb. We were just devastated to hear the news recently. I felt encouraged to see Floyd, his attitude and sence of humor were great and he is so thankful to Al, Floyd Jr., and Marilyn’s sisters as well as Chris Roberts and all the other great friends that have done so much. It was clear to me, as an RN and retired Nurse Educator that Floyd is going to be fine in a few months, barring any unforseen setbacks. I am very concerned for Marilyn and especially having had conversations with her about living wills and what her position on that is.
I worked about a year ago part time in Hospice and Marilyn and I had spoken about this. She told me about her living will how she would never want to be kept alive by machines etc if she would have no quality of life. I know that the ER probably didn’t have any knowledge of this when she was first brought in, but it concerns me that now after so much time and all she has been through, that her wishes are still not being respected. I spoke to her sisters about this and they were also aware of what Marilyn’s wishes were. I know this is a really difficult thing but it was clear to me when we saw Marilyn that she was not happy with her situation. I don’t know what the answer to all this is, but maybe we should really let Marilyn decide if she wants to continue on the machines she she has been, and still seems to be, such a strong and indepedent thinking person who still seems pretty “with it” and recognizes people and situations. We will continue to pray for them.

I am also interested in the living will situation. I do think they should be respecting Marilyn’s wishes. Is there a family lawyer who could shed some light? I am sure Al and Floyd Jr. have a handle on things…..I am just being curious.

Also, I am wondering where Marilyn is going if she is discharged from the hospital since it was mentioned earlier that she would not return to the the Bixby facility?

We think about them every day and will be back to visit within a few days. Please let them know they are in our prayers. Paula A.
