Marilyn Visit 9-5-08

Posted in Uncategorized at 11:11 pm by Chris Roberts

Visited Marilyn this evening, she was sleeping and her TV was turned off.  I rubbed her arm and she opened her eyes and verbalized Hi.  Asked her how she was feeling and she shrugged her shoulders and wrinkled her nose.  I asked her if she was hurting and she shook her head no.  I read her mail to her, a card from her sister Chris and Sue Webb.

Marilyn asked why her TV was off and I told her it was off when I came in, she asked me to put it on.  Channel surfing, came to a football game and she wanted to watch that.  She was not able to stay awake for very long, she kept falling to sleep.

Her skin looked good, and she did not seem bloated this evening.  Watered her flowers and brought them over so she could see them better, she said that she could smell them.

9-3-08 Update on Marilyn

Posted in Uncategorized at 12:44 am by Floyd Rosson Jr.

This afternoon I spoke with Howard Childress, owner/director of the Inola Health Care Facility, regarding Marilyn’s care. We discussed the comments made by the nurse’s at St Francis to Al and Chris and Marilyn’s overall care at Inola.

Howard is confident the overall care Marilyn receives from Inola is very good and definitely better than what she receives at St Francis. He suggested we ask Marilyn how she feels about her care and what she would like. He feels she is competent on most days to make these kind of decisions for herself. He also said they have pictures on file of the condition Marilyn left Inola for St Francis and then upon her return from St Francis to Inola. I haven’t seen the pictures but Howard stated he is confident they reflect the real story which is Marilyn returned from St Francis to Inola in worse condition then she left.

I could go on and on but bottom line Howard welcomes anyone to talk directly with Marilyn, come visit her at the facility and stay a while in observation of her care and/or call him personally anytime (918-543-8800). He would prefer you stop by Inola so Marilyn can have another visitor. I know he would sit aside some time for a visit with him while you are there. I would recommend calling him for an appointment although he and Pam both are generally very accessible.

Based on my personal observations and discussions I have had with many of the staff and nurse’s at Inola, I feel good about Marilyn’s home being in Inola. I also have an open mind and welcome anyone else’s observations and/or suggestions. Feel free to call me anytime.

Thanks for caring and visiting the Rosson Family Blog.

9-2-08 Floyd Jr’s Tulsa Visit and Frustrations

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:55 pm by Floyd Rosson Jr.

I was in Tulsa all last week but didn’t have time to slow down long enough to even think about updating the blog. My primary purpose to be back there was to care for my blood mom, Helen. She had knee replacement surgery on August 20th and I took her home on the 23rd and stayed with her till the 31st.  I was busy nursing, cooking, washing and running errands every day. It gave me a whole new appreciation for those that care for others. That is a tough job but we got through it just fine. Mom (Helen) is recvering just fine and will probably have her other knee replaced within the year. I am confident she will see a whole lot better mobility and will double that once she gets the other replaced.

I was able to make it up to St Francis to see Marilyn. She was sound asleep and couldn’t be wakened. Al was with me and we stayed for over a half hour rubbing her leg, calling her name and at times shouting but she never woke up. She was moved to Inola the next day and I was never able to make it out there.

I noticed Chris recently wrote on her blog “Her nurse also mentioned that she needed better care at the nursing home, she said I am not supposed to say that but it is true. She said she needs to be suctioned more and bathed more often so that they could keep up with her skin infections, she mentioned that the condition she came in on Sunday evening wasn’t good.” First I want to thank Chris for being the most frequent visitor and keeping us all so posted on her Marilyn’s condition and sharing the bad with the good. I then want to vent at a very frustrating system we have in the medical world.

Where to begin??? Al was told the same thing by the nurses at St Francis. From all that I can tell when I am at Inola the care could not be better. Sure…if we could hire private nurses with an unlimited budget things could be better but as far as institutional care everyone I know has been satisfied with what we have seen at Inola. Where the real frustration really sits in is the day Marilyn was returned to Inola from St Francis I immediately received a call from Inola saying she should have never been released from St Francis back to the care Inola can provide her. In other words she needed hospital care and Inola was not equipped to provide her needs. She was running a fever of 101~ and overall was not well enough to have been released. After the fact Al brought up a good point and said maybe the fever started on her return trip to Inola while in the ambulance??? Moving forward with my story, the Inola staff asked me what we as a family wanted to do. After a rather long conversation involving medical terms and finger pointing, I said…“WAIT A MINUTE…WHY DOESN’T THE DOCTOR FROM ST. FRANCIS TALK TO THE DOCTOR AT INOLA AND BETWEEN THE TWO OF THEM AS PROFESSIONALS DETERMINE WHAT IS BEST FOR MARILYN AND HER ONGOING CARE???” Is this where it would be appropriate to say “novel idea”? I was told by Howard, the Owner/Director of the Inola facility, that it would never happen. That my request was unrealistic to how the doctors operate. After a second request from me to at least try to get them to talk he said he would see what he could do but that we needed to decide what we wanted done because he didn’t expect the conversation between the doctors would ever happen. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT??? TWO PROFESSIONAL DOCTORS OVERSEEING THE SAME PATIENT CAN’T GET ON THE PHONE AND HAVE A CONVERSATION ABOUT WHAT IS BEST FOR THE PATIENT??? I feel like calling them myself and letting them know how I feel but I know it would only make things worse.

I am open to anyone’s suggestions and/or comments about what is the best for Marilyn. If anyone would like to add a comment on the blog, provide some possible direction and/or course of action please do so. You are also welcome to call me direct at 619-303-0844 anytime. I will be happy to listen and work as hard as possible to give Marilyn the best she can get for her remaining time on earth. I know I can say the same for Al. We both love Marilyn deeply, appreciate all she did for us, our father and the entire Rosson family. She is a great women who deserves peace in her life.

Marilyn Visit 9-2-08

When I went into Marilyn’s room this evening she was shouting out Follow Me, Follow Me.  I asked her where to and she said Oh I don’t know.  Asked her how she was feeling and she verbalized OK.  She looked liked she had had a bath, her skin looked good as if she had just had some cream put on.  I asked her if she was given a bath and she just closed her eyes.

Dean and Katie Reiss (sp) sent Marilyn some lovely flowers, tried to place them so she could enjoy them.

Marilyn was very quite the rest of my visit, she didn’t want to talk.  Her breathing was a little rapid and when she did speak her voice sounded a little raspy.  Her stomach was not bloated this evening.

Doyle and Virginia Floyd’s uncle had been to visit over the weekend.

Marilyn Visit 8-29-08

Went to Inola to visit Marilyn this evening after work.  When I went in she said I am so glad to see you I have been so worried about you, I asked her why she was worried about me, and she said she had not seen me for a while.  I asked her if she remembered me visiting her at the hospital and she shrugged her shoulders and went to sleep.  I asked her how she was feeling and she asked me why did you ask me that, told her that I was just checking to see if she felt alright, she then napped some more.  She napped on and off during my visit. At one point she asked me to move her trash can and then asked if I would take it home, I asked her why and she said that it was getting on her nerves.  Marilyn was able to verbalize quite well this evening.

Marilyn Visit 8-26-08

Marilyn was awake this evening and mouthed Oh so good to see you. Told her that I was up last night but that she was sleeping.  She really was trying to talk but I was having a hard time understanding her.  She kept mentioning Claire Jr’s wife, I said Margot and she said no, she was getting frustrated that I couldn’t read her lips.  I said do you mean Floyd Jr. and she looked at me and said yes that is what I have been saying.  She did seem a little confused at times, but I guess that is to be expected.

I told her at one point that I needed to get home and she kept mouthing no don’t go, stayed for about another 20 minutes and the nurse came in to suction her.  Told Marilyn that I would be up tomorrow if she was still in hospital, she mouthed you promise?

Marilyn’s nurse said that she would be going back tomorrow to Inola.  Her vent from Inola was not there.  Her nurse also mentioned that she needed better care at the nursing home, she said I am not supposed to say that but it is true. She said she needs to be suctioned more and bathed more often so that they could keep up with her skin infections, she mentioned that the condition she came in on Sunday evening wasn’t good.

Marilyn status update!

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:52 pm by Al Rosson

It appears that Marilyn will be going back to Inola tomorrow according to the call from the doctor today!

I got a call from the doctor and she indicated that there were no signs of pneumonia at this time and the culture was clean. She indicated she was going to order her home vent and if everything went well she would be getting discharged tomorrow. It appears that she has been retaining too much liquid and that they need to adjust her meds. Also, it appears that there is serious sign of yeast infection on her skin and that it needs to be checked on regularly.

I will post the update once I know she has been discharged.

Thanks again for your continued love, prayers and support!

Marilyn Visit 8-25-08

Marilyn was sleeping soundly during my visit this evening.  Her face was really flushed, her breathing was very calm compared to yesterday.  Her nurse came in and said that she does not have a fever and that she was a little responsive earlier in the day.  Nurse said they are giving her antibiotics to help with the infections.

Don Ross had been to visit Marilyn today.
